The first ever Ferrari dealership in India opened its doors today in the heart of New Delhi. The Grand Opening, which was hosted by Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa, Ferrari Commercial and Marketing Director Enrico Galliera, and Ashish Chordia, Chairman of the Shreyans Group, the official Ferrari importer for India, was devoted to the members of the local and international press. A crash is never a good thing but fortunately for those involved in this three-vehicle accident in Texas City on April 19, no one was seriously injured. According to a report from The Daily News, the driver of a big ol’ 1987 Chevrolet Suburban SUV was traveling west on FM 517 with his wife and two children when he disregarded the red traffic light and crashed into an oncoming Ferrari California in the intersection. Blame their celebrity-like status, but when a new supercar gets involved in an accident, it’s bound to attract some media attention. This here incident involves a brand new (or fairly new) Ferrari California and a tour bus that crossed paths at the intersection of Camden and Wilshire Blvd in Beverly Hills. We don’t know the details surrounding the mishap but the result is that the Ferrari got squashed into a curb by the tour bus. Ferrari passed over 1,000 hours in the wind tunnel with a one-third-scale model of the Golden State honing its aeromechanicses. With the top up, the Calif. has a coefficient of drag of 0.32, making it the most aerodynamic Ferrari ever made.
The California represents a number of firsts for Ferrari:
* The first front engined Ferrari with a V8 * The first to feature a 7-speed dual clutch transmission * The first with a folding metal roof * The first with multi-link rear suspension * The first with direct petrol injection.
According to some sources originally started as a concept for a new Maserati, the resulting expense to produce the car needed the Ferrari badge to justify the ideal return on the investment. The California represents a new, fourth model range for the company.
